It served as the UK’s main air defence weapon into the 1990s and was in large-scale service with the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the forces of four other countries.A surface-to-air missile (SAM), or ground-to-air missile (GTAM ), is a missile designed to be launched from the ground to destroy aircraft or other missiles.
