Do služby v sovětském letectvu vstoupil MiG-29 v roce 1982.

The Mikoyan MiG-29 (Russian: Микоян МиГ-29; NATO reporting name: Fulcrum) is a twin-engine jet fighter aircraft designed in the Soviet Union. Developed by the Mikoyan design bureau as an air superiority fighter during the 1970s, the MiG-29, along with the larger Sukhoi Su-27, was developed to counter new U.S. fighters such as the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle and the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon. MiG-29 (product 9-12) factory number 2960518475, released in February 1986, airborne No. 08 (red, white edging). Soviet Air Force, 1521st AB, the airfield “Mary-1.” Initially, the fighter belonged to the 91st jail (Lipetsk-2 airfield), where it was listed as number 33 (red). In November 1990, the plane was transferred to the first in the 115th Guards IAP (Kokaydy airfield). Seven months later, in July 1991, he entered the Mara airbase. After the dismantling of the 1521st AB, the fate of this MiG-29 is not known. The aircraft is depicted as of 1992.

Features of painting and marking: the aircraft is painted according to one of the standard schemes adopted for “products 9-12”. To improve the recognition of the fighter on the films of the FPA “enemy”, the cover of the lantern of the pilot’s cabin was painted in a contrasting white color. On the air intakes of the fighter there are warning signs “ATTENTION! DANGER “, preserved from the time of service of the aircraft as part of the 91st jiap. Radio transparent panels in dark gray. Racks gray chassis wheels dark green. The “short” anti-glare mask in front of the cockpit visor is matte black.

Symbolism: A special feature of the aircraft of the air base of Mary was a bright and memorable decor. MiG-29 No. 08 received an impressively large aggressive maw on the head, the emblem of a bumblebee (or hornet) on the outer sides of the carinae. There, on the keels, just above the identification marks, the abbreviation “AM” is applied, which stands for “Air Base Mary”.

The author of the symbolism is unknown, but the prototype of the hornet was the drawing on the Douglas A-1 Skyraider aircraft of the VA-176 squadron of the US Navy, based on the aircraft carrier Interpid.
