         English Electric Lightning / BAC Lightning

English Electric Lightning (později BAC Lightning) byl nadzvukový stíhací letoun z období studené války. Byl navržen, vyvinut a vyráběn společností English Electric, která byla později pohlcena nově vytvořenou British Aircraft Corporation, čímž později nesl označení BAC Lightning. Nejčastější s ním spojované charakteristiky jsou vysoká rychlost a vnější plochy ponechané v přirozené barvě kovu. Byl to jediný dvoumachový stíhač, který kompletně vznikl jen v Británii.

The English Electric Lightning is a fighter aircraft that served as an interceptor during the 1960s, the 1970s and into the late 1980s. It remains the only UK-designed-and-built fighter capable of Mach 2. The Lightning was designed, developed, and manufactured by English Electric, which was later absorbed by the newly-formed British Aircraft Corporation. Later the type was marketed as the BAC Lightning. It was operated by the Royal Air Force (RAF), the Kuwait Air Force (KAF) and the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF).

The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom’s aerial warfare force. Formed towards the end of the First World War on 1 April 1918,it is the oldest independent air force in the world. Following victory over the Central Powers in 1918 the RAF emerged as, at the time, the largest air force in the world.
